Network To Freedom Designation
On Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:30 am, at Wesleyan Cemetery at 4000 Colerain Avenue in Northside, the city of Cincinnati is holding a press conference to celebrate the awarding of the prestigious Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Designation from the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service for three sites on city of Cincinnati property:
• Wesleyan Cemetery/Escape of the 28 decoy and Abolitionist John Van Zanst’s Burial Site
• Escape of the 28 Corridor/Kirby, Glenview and Belmont Avenues
• Salmon P. Chase 3rd Street Law Office
In attendance: Vice-Mayor David Mann will officiate at the event, Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune will present a Proclamation from the County, State Senator, Cecil Thomas, has been asked to represent the State. Representatives from CNCURC, the College Hill Historical Society, Mt. Healthy HIstorical Society, the Freedom Center and Hamilton Avenue Road To Freedom will also be present.
